It was a winter day, and I remember my mom getting me ready for a school concert, in which I was preforming with my kindergarden class. We all had to dress in white, like angels, for the Christmas performance. My mother did my hair in a bun, dressed me in a white dress, but I had to wear a turtle neck, which i despised, but since it was cold I wore it. Besides, I had no choice I was 5! Haha. I put my shoes on and I was pretty excited. Then all of a sudden my mom took me to the bathroom and she began applying pink lipstick on my lips, she curled my eye lashes, & applied mascara to my eyes. The feeling of excitement ran through me I was the happiest in that moment! I remember I even asked "makeup"??!? I was hooked. Of course I was not allowed to wear makeup until later in life, but I always remember admiring my Barbies for the makeup that was on them, not the clothes or shoes or accessories but barbies Bold PINK lips, sharp blue eyes, and purple eye shadow. I even remember getting a barbie doll from mexico. It was cheap plastic, but I admired it so, because it had different makeup, with its bright red pouty lips, and dark winged lined eyes I just loved it! There is no denying I have always admired the beauty of makeup.
Fast Forward a few years, I didn't crave wearing makeup I was just a kid, climbing trees, watching Disney movies. Climbing trees, pretending to be a Disney princess, and that tree was my castle. You know your average girly girl I guess, except I liked getting dirty in the mud in the dirt, in my dads garage helping him out with whatever car he was fixing up. It wasn't Until 5th grade that I really started getting interested in wearing makeup. One day in particular I remember being In 5th grade and I saw this little scrawny blonde girl wearing bright blue eye shadow and oh I was jealous thinking "well why can she wear it but I cant"? So the next day I rummaged through my mothers Makeup and found a Maybelline eye shadow. It was a sea green metallic eye shadow, teal almost. So I took it and the next morning I wore it! I felt so awesome! By the end of the day I got in so much trouble by my mom. She picked me up from school and she started yelling at me in Spanish "Que diablos es eso en la cara?!' I was just thinking oH crap! My mom sure knew how to make me feel like poo after feeling like a million bucks. Did I mention I grew up with very strict Mexican Parents? So needles to say I wasn't allowed to wear makeup for a while. She did budge a little and let me wear lip gloss and glittery lip balms. After she allowed me to do that I remember getting the reputation of makeup queen. For some reason. Well, when my classmates saw me open my desk I had about 20 lip products inside but only one pencil! LOL! The following year I LITERALLY got in trouble by my 6th grade teacher complaining I was wearing too much makeup. He called in my parents and they had a meeting. WOW. That day I put on all the makeup In the world foundation, blush, eye shadow, mascara, eyeliner it was the first time I went makeup crazy. And to think that's minimum to me now. It actually didn't look terrible but it didn't look cute either. I already looked older than 12 so I definitely didn't NEED makeup so of course I ended up looking like an 18 year old. So then, I was scolded and reprimanded by my parents my Dad was super p***** Off. I didn't think makeup could affect them so much. It was probably the fact that they realized I was growing up when they saw me wearing all that makeup so they geared up their sadness to anger. Anyway that was the beginning of bad makeup choices for me. Middle school through High school seemed to be a whole lot of winged liner and dark lined lips. And then people wonder why I'm so good at the winged liner ;). I can almost guarantee that 90% of Mexican -American girls wore their makeup like that all through High school. It's Kind of comical that in some regions of the country people still wear their makeup like that! Did I mention Sharpie thin eye brows. Killed my eyebrows. But I am sure every generation and culture has their makeup woahs and woozies! These were mine.
Thank you For reading my early years on how it all began!
